How to find wasted spend in Meta Ads without being an ads expert

Meta Ads Manager shows you a lot of numbers and very few answers. You do not need to be a media buyer to find the obvious waste. These four checks take about 30 minutes and usually pay for themselves the same week.

Check 1 — Spend with zero conversions

Sort ad sets by amount spent over the last 30 days and add the purchases column. Any ad set that spent more than three times your average order value with no purchase is not learning anymore, it is burning money. Pause it.

Check 2 — Ads sending people to dead pages

Click through every active ad. Out-of-stock products, removed pages and slow landing pages are common, and Meta will keep charging you for those clicks. This is the leak no single dashboard shows, because Meta does not know your stock.

Check 3 — Tracking that does not match reality

Compare purchases reported by Meta with real orders in your store for the same week. A big gap means the pixel or Conversions API is broken, and Meta is optimizing for the wrong people.

Check 4 — Audiences competing with each other

Several ad sets targeting nearly the same people bid against each other and raise your own costs. Merge overlapping audiences into fewer, larger ad sets.
